What is Rosé Champagne?

Rosé Champagne is simply a Champagne with a color of pink hue. Or you can call it a sparkling rose that is made from Champagne.

However, they are generally more expensive than other kinds of sparkling roses, but most would say they do tend to hold greater value coming from the Champagne region of France.

How Rose Champagne is Made?

Many people believe that all pink sparkling wine should be classified as Rose Champagne, when in fact, this distinction only applies to wines originated and produced from the region of Champagne. Just like any other type of Champagne wine.

And to achieve this pink color, it is made simply mixing red and white. Winemakers can only use the following three grapes to make Champagne: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The last two of these are red grapes. But Champagne is still white because only the flesh and juice inside of the red grapes are used.

So to make Rose Champagne sparkling wines, there are two (2) methods:

  1. Maceration, the process of allowing red grape skins to bleed until the desired color is achieved, happens before pressing.
  2. Blending is the most popular method to produce Rosé Champagne. It is done by adding on average about 12% – 15% of still red wine to the blend (assemblage).
