The Butter Chardonnay is one of the fastest-growing Chardonnays in the US. It’s so popular that it’s now sold in all 50 states and can be bought anywhere including Instacart and Amazon Fresh.
There’s no wonder that this rich flavorful wine coupled with its attractive price is enjoyed by many people, especially for those who love buttery Chardonnays.
JaM Cellars is the brand that produces Butter Chardonnay. “J” and “M” starts for John and Michele who come from second-generation Napa Valley vintners. What started in 1995 as a vineyard management business that grows grapes for other wines, they have built its brand to what you see today.
JaM Cellars was awarded the Wine Marketer of the Year in the 2019 Rising Wine Star Awards by the Luxury Marketing Council of San Francisco.
For a wine under $20, the Butter Chardonnay is flavorful and has an impressive consistency. It’s not too sweet, but it’s flavorful enough that you can drink it on its own.
The Butter Chardonnay has a very minimalist design. I first expected it to be very buttery because of its label.
On the glass, I see yellow golden color which is typical for buttery Chardonnay.
Surprisingly, I get only a little bit of the butter aroma from this wine. This smells more of a fruit like pineapple, pear, apple, and apricot. I can also smell a little bit of oak from it.
Like the aroma, there’s not as much butter as I thought there would be from this Chardonnay. Although there’s definitely some creaminess on the palate, I get more of the fruit flavors. I taste pineapple, stone fruits, and some vanilla and butter notes. There’s also some oak, light notes of ginger, and a baked lemon tart aftertaste.
And for the finish, this is where I really get the butter. It’s very smooth, full-bodied, and medium dry. It has a long vanilla finish and the feeling of butter melting in your mouth.
And if you are a fan of Chardonnay, this might be one of your favorites.
You can find Butter Chardonnay almost everywhere from physical wine retailers to online. Some of the places you’ll find it are Walmart, Target, Safeway, Bevmo, Total Wine, Instacart, Amazon Fresh, and more. The price is around ~$15.99 but would depend on where you buy it.
We found that the best place to buy Butter Chardonnay is at Costco for $11.89 or Trader Joe’s for $11.99.
It is also now available in cans.
The Butter Chardonnay is a dry wine. But so flavorful, that you may get a tiny bit of sweetness from the ripe fruit flavors.
Winemakers perform the process of malolactic fermentation to make a buttery Chardonnay. This process converts the malic acid into a lactic acid that is soft and palatable. When the acidity softens, the wine transforms into a buttery and creamier texture.
The Butter Chardonnay tastes like fruits, vanilla, some mild oak, and a little lemon zest. It has a long vanilla and creamy buttery finish.
